EAT BANKBOOK (Four Winds members only) Lost in thought, you absentmindedly chew on the corner of your weathered leather bankbook. Seeming lost in thought, Eratika absentmindedly chews on the corner of her weathered leather bankbook.

EAT <FOOD ITEM>

You take a bite of your apple cookie.
MMMMM mmmmm GOOOD!

Eratika takes a bite of her apple cookie.

EAT <ITEM>

>eat back

You try to eat your heavy backpack.

>eat sealed message

Having suddenly decided that you are a secret agent of some sort and are about to be captured, you hastily stuff the message in your mouth and chew it up. It tastes rather dry and without flavor, you manage to choke it all down and then suddenly realize that this is going to be just a little hard to explain.

Eratika tries to eat her heavy backpack.

Elleth suddenly stuffs a bit of folded parchment in her mouth and chews it up rapidly as if fearing some enemy will snatch it away and read it.

EAT <PERSON>

You bite Trakkar!

Eratika bites you! Of all the nerve!

EAT <YOURSELF> You chew on your fingernails. Mm, delicious. Eratika chews on her fingernails.

ENCHANT (by wizards only)

NOTE: As Khait notes, "Newflash: As of March 30, 2001, mages are having difficulty with the tempering of items for enchanting. Tempering potions can no longer be purchased - the Wehnimer's Landing Alchemist Shop has burned to the ground, sisfu potion is no longer for sale on Teras, and the alchemists in Solhaven and the Caravansary are out of stock. Furthermore, mages are encountering a high failure rate when trying to pour potions they purchased previously. No one is sure if this is a temporary situation, or preparation for a new enchanting system to be rolled out. Check the Wizard folder on the Official Simutronics message board to keep up to date on the situation."

(NOTE:  A LOT of mana must be infused into the area -- see INFUSED -- and the wizard should enchant only at workshops or other areas with intense mana pools. Note that there is a formula - which could change at anytime - for roughly calculating what amount of increasingly difficult enchants a particular wizard can do successfully with an item such as armor. There is also a formula for determining how much mana is needed for enchanting from a 1x to a 2x, etc. A wizard cannot enchant the item until he or she has prepared it with rohnuru, dugnuru, dirtokh, mirtokh or sisfu potion, see POUR POTION ON MY <ARMOR or WEAPON or SHIELD> )

What follows is a successful enchant; the wizard may see other messages which indicate a range of failures, from simple "try enchanting it again" messages to total destruction of the item and harm to the wizard:

>prep 925
You concentrate on the Enchant Item spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast my leather
You gesture at some double leather.
(D100: 63)
You recognize the double leather from when you worked on it before. The double leather currently has a bonus of +5. As you concentrate on casting your magicks at it, faint sparkles surround and embed the double leather, and join themselves to its very structure. Then, the sparkles pulse brighter, and in unison. A bright aura suddenly surrounds the double leather and seems to consume it! After a moment the glow fades and the double leather returns to normal. The enchantment was successful.
Round time: 20 sec.

What follows is what can happen when a wizard attempts to enchant BEFORE the waiting period is up; i.e., the rohnuru potion tells you wait three hours, and you attempt to enchant in only one hour:
>prep 925
You concentrate on the Enchant Item spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast my doub leather
You gesture at some double leather.
(D100: 39)
You recognize the double leather from when you worked on it before. The double leather currently has a bonus of +5. As you concentrate on casting your magicks at it, faint sparkles surround and embed the double leather, but then pulse strangely. The structure of the double leather is in a state between normality and magical pliability, and begins to warp and crackle! Hurriedly you struggle to withdraw or dispel the sparkling magic from the double leather. You finally succeed and manage to force the double leather to keep its form, but it feels weaker somehow after its ordeal.
(This double leather could have been completely destroyed. As it turns out, the original enchanting bonus of +5 it once had is now gone. Although the leather is wearable, it cannot be re-enchanted and it has no bonus at all.)

The following happens when the item has properly been prepared via a potion and a waiting period, but there is not enough mana in the local mana pool. More mana must be INFUSED:
>prep 925
You concentrate on the Enchant Item spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast my full leather
You gesture at some full leather.
You sense there is insufficient mana in the area to focus any into your full leather.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

The following occurs when you have not poured an appropriate potion onto the item:
>prep 925
You concentrate on the Enchant Item spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast my full leather
You gesture at some full leather.
You cast your magicks at your full leather. A faint sparkling surrounds and embeds it, but then fades. The enchantment could not be absorbed into the full leather. Perhaps it wasn't prepared correctly.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

ENCUMBRANCE

(There are 10 levels of encumbrance, from unencumbered to so encumbered you can barely move. Your constitution, strength and weight statistics all affect how much you can carry before becoming encumbered, where you will then pass from Level 0 to Level 1. While no one has yet discovered the formula, it is possible that your constitution, strength and weight stats affect not only how much baggage it will take to begin to become encumbered (i.e., reach Level 1) but also the increments between each level beyond Level 1.)

Level 0 (unemcumbered):
You adjust your gear comfortably and feel satisfied that you are not encumbered enough to notice.

Level 1:
Your load is a bit heavy, but you feel confident that the weight is not affecting your actions very much.

Level 2:
You feel somewhat weighed down, but can still move well, though you realize you are not as quick as you could be.

Level 3:
You can't quite get comfortable, and are definitely feeling the effects of the weight you are carrying. Lightening your load could help.

Level 4:
Your shoulders are beginning to sag under the weight of your gear, and your reactions are not very fast. Time to unload, perhaps?

Level 5:
The weight you are carrying is giving you a backache. Perhaps you should unload some things soon before you actually have to move fast.

Level 6:
You are beginning to stoop under the load you are carrying, and your reactions are slow. Hope you don't have to dodge anything.

Level 7:
It is difficult to move quickly at all, and your legs are strained with the effort of carrying all that stuff. You can probably manage to trudge around town, but hunting would be treacherous.

Level 8:
You find it nearly impossible to make any fast moves, and you ache all over from the load you are trying to haul around. Hope you're in a safe place.

Level 9:
You are so weighed down with junk you can barely move. You might be able to make it to your locker by summoning all your strength and willpower, but surviving much else would not be a good bet.
