The American Firehouse - Other
Here are the answers to a few questions that could be on your mind. (I can't call this FAQs since I have never received a question).
Why build a site dedicated to American Firehouses?
I have been a fire buff for as long as I can remember. I think I can trace it back to my 5th birthday when my grandpa gave me a fire helmet from St. Louis Park, MN. Since then, there's been no turning back.
Regardless, I have always been interested in firehouses because they exist in almost every city, they serve the same basic function in every city, but are yet so different in their design from city to city. It's almost as if each one has its own personality to fit the area it serves. Some firehouses stand proud in their neighborhoods while others seem to hide in the shadows. Some look fake - brand new and unused - while others seem surreal - old and uninhabitable, yet comfortable and welcoming. Some are lavish while others are humble.
You're obviously not a web designer, are you a firefighter?
No, I am the sales manager for a manufacturing company.
How often will the site be updated?
Between my family and my work, I will try to update at least once a month. However, once the database is up and running, photos may be added as often as daily.
What type of camera are you using?
Right now, I have a Nikon D70 and a Pentax Optio 555. A vast majority of the photos taken after early April 2005 were taken with the Nikon. Some of the photos on this site taken between late November 2004 and early April 2005 were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel.
