The Outlaw Wireless League K3OWL

Welcome to the Outlaw Wireless League Home Page.

The members of the OWLS, wishing to enjoy amateur radio in the short-wave spectrum (1.8 to 30 MHz), have as our purpose promoting the art of DXing, contesting, and rag-chewing in the short-wave bands; to exchange information and co-operation between amateurs and encourage the art of communicating via short-wave radio.

All licensed amateur radio operators with an interest in courteous use of the amateur HF spectrum are eligible for membership, providing they are able to demonstrate their ability to copy CW (continuous wave) telegraphy at the rate required by the FCC for the license held. Membership is granted by invitation only. A candidate for membership must be sponsored by at least two active members. Alternatively, any candidate who has been presented with an ARRL Official Observer's Report within the past year may elect exemption from sponsorship. Membership in the Outlaw Wireless League is granted by two-thirds vote of the active membership.

To maintain active membership in the Outlaw Wireless League, one of the following requirements must be met:

It also should be noted that activities concerning frequencies above 30 MHz shall not be discussed at meetings, unless relating to DXCluster operation. Any member found wasting the League's time with such trivia shall be appropriately disciplined.

Breakfast

The Outlaw Wireless League meets the fourth Saturday of each month for breakfast at the Quentin Haus Restaurant, in Quentin, PA. All amateurs interested in the OWL philosophy of ham radio are invited to attend. The meeting starts promptly at 09:00 local time.

The PA QSO Party

The Outlaw Wireless League was conceived by Harry Bump, KM3D and Dave Strasz, WT3H both avid contesters and DXers, as a means to generate interest in the PA QSO PARTY by amateur radio operators in the Lebanon County, PA area. Their idea worked. Participation has grown steadily from the early beginnings of the OWL's in 1993 to the present.
