I made it as a delegate to the State Democratic Convention here in the Springs. The Clinton supporters were impressively enthusiastic, howling their support as cars drove past, lifting a cherry-picker into the sky with a big Hillary banner on it, hosting a hospitality suite at the Hampton Inn Friday night and handing out free coffee, juice, sodas and bagels at the entrance to the World Arena parking lot on Saturday morning. Heck, I'll do anything for food. I even made a sign for them.Inside the Arena, though, I was an Obama guy. Ran into Mark, who I called up as an alternate from our precinct to County and who made it as a delegate to State. Sat with a lot of the regulars from my district, like Calvin, a veteran of Vietnam and innumerable political campaigns, and Ed, my county captain, and Tony Barnes, who was putting on a concert for our state house candidate, Dennis Apuan, Saturday night after the con. Dennis's rubber ducky campaign at the District convention the day before got his picture into the Rocky Mountain News. Mark Udall, son of Mo, who's favored to win the upcoming Senate race, walked right by me. Terry McAuliffe, former DNC head, came to speak on Hillary's behalf, but the first thing he did was slip in a plug for his book.
