John Conway's Life

A new cell is born when there are 3 live neighbors, a cell stays alive when surrounded by 2 or 3 live cells and dies of solitude if less than 2 neighbors or dies of overpopulation if more than 3 neighbors. For example if you have 3 cells xxx the middle cell will stay alive because it has 2 neighbors but the outside two will die of solitude because they have only one neighbor each. The empty cells above and below the middle cell have exactly 3 neighbors so a new cell will be born. This results in the pattern going from 3 in a row horizontally to 3 in a row vertically. Then the exact opposite will happen, resulting in a repeating pattern.
