ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
August 4, 2000
CALL TO ORDER:
President, Chuck Ferguson opened the USOF Annual General Membership meeting with the reading the USOF Mission Statement.
CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE:
The Credential Committee, Robert Buraczynski (Chair), Cathy Yekenevicz, and Joanne Sankus reported that, there were delegates from 21 clubs with 910 votes represented directly. Six other clubs sent 109 votes by proxy, the total number, establishing a quorum.
CERTIFIERS ELECTED:
Ken Lappin and Rick Hood were elected to certify the minutes of this year’s AGM.
ELECTIONS:
The following USOF officers and representatives were elected by acclamation:
VP Marketing and Public Relations - Sherry Litasi; VP Club Services - Scott Drumm
VP Administration - Frank Kuhn, and as At-large Representative - Randy Hall.
Additionally, representatives were elected from the following USOF regions:
Northwest: Bill Cusworth – Representative, Bruce McAlister - Alternate
Mid Atlantic: Ken Lappin – Representative, Jim Eagleton - Alternate
Southwest: Bob Paddock – Representative, David Irving - Alternate
NON-PROFIT
APPLICATION TEMPLATE AVAILABLE:
Robin Shannonhouse has a template available from the USOF office for applying for tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit organization. USOF clubs need to make a serious attempt at applying for 501(c)(3) status. It helps volunteers to claim much earned deductions, helps with finding sponsors that can only donate to non-profits and it keeps the IRS happy. The following Bylaw amendment to Article IV, Section A. Club Membership passed by vote of the general membership:
Organizations that are by nature or are operated on a “for-profit” basis are not eligible for regular or associate club membersh8ip. They may become supporting members under Section C. Of this Article or they may affiliate with the Federation as a “business Affiliate” with such rights and privileges as designated by the Board of Directors.
PRESIDENT’S AWARD
RECIPIENTS:
Although there are too many people to thank and everyone who serves USOF deserves an award, this year’s President’s Award recipients are Michael Schneiderman, VP Club Services, for invaluable counsel and Even Custer for his leadership in the search for and purchase of USOF’s new E-Punch system. Even will has also volunteered to be the first SI loan program
SILVA AWARD: The prestigious Silva Award, went to Frank Campbell of GAOC for his decade long effort to expand orienteering nationally, through JROTC participation. Frank’s enthusiasm and dedication initially caught on with Navy JROTC and then spread to the Army and the Air Force. His perseverance and tenacious dedication to this project introduced orienteering to thousands of American teenagers, and through their participation brought new growth and diversity to our orienteering family.
