Involving Students in Assessment
Create a list of strategies you could use to involve students in assessment.
List of Strategies

1. Begin units/lessons with brainstorming by the students about what is important to know or measure about the subject.

2. Get student input on creating the scoring rubric.

3. If there is an existing rubric of the students can give feedback in regards to points possible, items measured, etc.

4. Let students create their own quizzes as a warm-up to the final assessment.

5. Whenever possible, have students practice critiquing each other's work using the rubric that will be used to for their final.

6. Have students grade themselves with the rubric before the final.

7. Whenever possible, to give students feedback in an assessment that requires a response.  Then follow-up and give points for the response.

8. Always help students assess the teacher, the class and their success in it before each grading period.

9. Students will keep portfolios including different levels of work over the year and drafts of the same assignment.  

10. Students track their own scores on assignments in their notebooks.

11. Continue to work with students who wish to design their own alternative projects/assessments.
