Event Reports
Cheldelin Go Workshops
by Robert O'Malley
Saturday, April 3, and Saturday April 24, Cheldelin
Middle School, Corvallis OR
These two workshops were aimed at getting the youth players
ready for full board games at the Corvallis Spring Tournament
next month.
Player strength for these youth players is estimated to run from
approximately 25 kyu to9 kyu.
Participants at the April 3 event included:
Brian Son,
Joe Newbry, Trevor
Heath, Chad Newbry, and
Van Fudge (all 6th grade);
Fernando Medina (5th grade); and
Sean Adams (3rd grade). The April 24 event was attended by
Brian Son, Tae-Han Yeo,
Patrick Yun,
Evan Wu, and
Scott Card (all 6th grade); and
Michael Son (4th grade).
Capturing by nets and ladders was covered, along with some
standard josekis, and the killable shapes. Mostly, though, this was an
opportunity to engage in full board games.
Thanks to Cynthia Gaty (Salem) for
her assistance at the Apri 24 event, where we attempted to calibrate in the
players prior to the tournament on May 15.
