3 / 14 / 2004 Gotcha day! We have Ruby!!!! She isn't a happy girl right now. This is a traumatic transition for her. Hopefully in a few days she will settle in and get used to us. When she realized that the orphanage staff members had left, panic set in. She is adorable and we love her so! The morning started slow with a late breakfast with Wendy and Piper. We hung out in our room in the morning and then went out to explore with Craig, Wendy, Piper and the Barnetts. (they are from Spartanburg SC). I dropped some film off to be developed. It was ready just a few hours later. At 6:15 we met our guide Richard down in the lobby to go get our babies. The Civil Affairs office was just a few minutes away. We got there and immediately saw Jia Le. All the babies were there and everybody was busy checking out their daughter and each others' daughters. It was quite a site. We signed a temporary guardianship for her, and then we all headed back to the hotel. A photographer came and took family photos that are necessary for the paperwork tomorrow. After tomorrow morning we will be done with most of the paperwork for the Fuzhou leg of the trip. Julie is doing an amazing job of being a new Mom. I know she is nervous about getting it all right. That Ruby is in such consistent distress is agonizing. Letting her "cry it out" is not in her best interests in terms of attachment. She continues to cry regardless of being held, but continue to hold we shall! We can tell right away how much work this will be.
