3 / 19 / 2004 Today we headed to Guangzhou, the final step of our trip. Julie was still not feeling well. Ruby slept thru the night last night which was a big help. She and I had breakfast while Julie rested. We then started the slow process of packing up and getting ready to go. Unfortunately Julie had a rough time given how nauseous she was feeling. We were afraid that if she was too sick we wouldn't make the flight. They scan you for fevers at he airports here. They want to make sure they don't let SARS outbreak again. After we checked out of the hotel we headed to the police station to pick up the girls passports. We then headed out to the airport and got on our flight to Guangzhou. The bus ride was hard on Julie but the plane ride seemed better. Ruby did really well on the plane ride , only fussed a little when we landed. The 12 hr flight from Guangzhou to LA will be the real test! Fuzhou is about 1.5 million people. Guangzhou has a base population of 6 million and another 4 million transient population. A lot of factories are located here. The hotel we are staying at, The White Swan, is located on Shamian Island on the Pearl river. The Island was an old British enclave I believe. The US Consulate which processes visas is located here. We are here to get Ruby's visa to return to the US with us. When we clear customs in LA she will officially be a US citizen. She is already legally our daughter! By the time we got checked in and Ruby put to bed we crashed out.
