We decided to adopt from China and signed with
our agency, Americans Adopting Orphans. They are a small, local agency that
we felt comfortable with. We began gathering the paperwork for our dossier.
|
| April 2003 - |
We received our I-171H at the end of
March. This was the last document we needed to complete our dossier. Because
our agency sends in dossiers around the 20th of the month, our dossier didn't
get mailed until late April. Because of SARS, the CCAA closed early for a
holiday. Our dossier didn't get logged until May 10th. At the time the
wait for referral was 14 months. |
| May 2003 - |
The SARS outbreak worsens and the CCAA puts a
hold on sending out referrals but continues to process paperwork. Approx 6-8
weeks later the World Health Organization lifted the last travel ban for
China. The CCAA resumed sending out referrals, this time two months at a
time. |

| February 16, 2004 |
We received our travel approval and got a
consulate date of 3/22/2004. With that date we could book tickets and
arrange to leave to go get Ruby! |
