Do we share Fay ancestors - or, is there a possibility? If so, drop me a note. Would love to share information.

DANIEL FAY, NATIVE OF IRELAND, WIFE BLINDED IN ACCIDENT SEVEN YEARS AGO.
Daniel Fay, Union Veteran
of the War Between the States and the father of fourteen, died at 11:30
Wednesday night on his ninety-fourth birthday anniversary at 3408 Pflanz
Avenue, where he lived with his second wife, Mrs. Bridget Ethel Fay, 85,
who was blinded in a street car accident in Louisville seven years ago.
Death resulted from
paralysis with which he was stricken early Mnday morning. He had
suffered several previous attacks.
Funeral services
were to be held at 12:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Church of Our Lady,
Portland and the body was to be taken to Ottumwa Iowa, for burial beside
his first wife.
CAME TO UNITED STATES WHEN 14
A native of County
Galway, Ireland, Mr. Fay came to America when he was 14 years old.
He located in Philadelphia, where he learned the tanner's trade.
Later he had farmed in Virginia, Illinois, Iowa and Alberta, Canada.
During the War Between the States he enlisted in the Union Army in Chicago.
He applied for a pension a year ago, but had not received one.
SECOND WIFE DISTANT KIN
The first wife of
Mr. Fay, who was the mother of his twelve sons and two daughters, died
some years ago. His second marriage to a distant relative grew
out of his childhood memories of his native land. A niece,
who lived in Alberta, came to Louisville thirteen years ago.
Mr. Fay asked her to look up Bridget Fay, who was reared two miles from
his birthplace and whose father he had known. He knew she had
come to Louisville.
The niece located
Mrs. Bridget Fay Ethell, a widow. Mr. Fay came to Louisville
to see Mrs. Ethell. They were married after a brief courtship
and went to Alberta. However, twelve years ago they returned
to Louisville. In recent years he had done a little carpentry work
but had not steady employment. Mrs. Fay said she will remain
in Louisville, boarding with friends.
Seven of Mr. Fay's children
survive him. They are William Fay and Mrs. Agnes Neinmeyer
of Alberta, James, Charles and Daniel Fay of Washington, John Fay, living
in Oregon and Robert Fay of Burlington, Iowa.
This record would give Daniel a birthdate of 1831. However, since Daniel did not give the date, it can be questioned.
Note: This obituary of Daniel Fay states that
Daniel had a niece in Alberta, Canada in 1912. This would indicate
that the niece would probably be a daughter of a brother or sister of Daniel's
as she also had the "Fay" name. I did, find who I believe to be the
Bridget married to our Daniel Fay, in the 1900 Hamilton Co., OH Census
in Cincinnati Twp, Cincinnati City. Sheet 1A - Ward 4.

Note: We do not know who Michael Niester. I was told by my aunts that the Nesters (as they spelled it) were related. Assuming this "father" is Catherine's "father", would it be her step-father? If it is Daniel's "father" would it be his step-father? Any help will be appreciated. No record was seen for him previous to this and no record has been found of him after this census. There was a Michael Nester in the 1st Ward of the City of Louisville in the 1860 census age 26 b. Ireland with wife Margret and daughter Mary. Nothing further is known of him.
It is to be noted that there is a "Mary Mullen" very near where our Catherine was in this census. Mary Mullen is also of age to be the mother of our Catheirne. Nothing further has been done on this family. All help will be appreciated.
Daniel and Catherine's son, Thomas, would have
been about 20 years old and is not in the household. Daniel
is not in the household at the time of the census. Perhaps
they may be found together elsewhere. Would like to hear from
anyone with information on this.

This would give Daniel a birthdate of 1834 - also gives his immigration date differently. It is possible, of course, that Bridgit gave the information - not Daniel. Bridgit would have been b. 1840
Interesting to note that two different years of immigration have been given for Daniel. 1850 and 1853.

PERSONAL NOTES:
According
to my uncle, Jim Fay (s/o Daniel Fay and Catherine Mullen Fay), the
following was stated:
Daniel Fay (Jim's father) was about 5 yeas
old when his parents died and was the youngest of six boys.
All the boys were adopted out. When Daniel grew up he advertised
for his brothers. He said that the head of the Social Security
Dept. must have been one as he looked exactly like Will (Daniel's son).
The head of the S.S. Dept. was in Washington, DC. and was named Will
Fay. Uncle Jim also stated that the boys ahd probably not actually
been adopted out but rather had been raised by other families.
It is known that
Daniel Fay and at least two of his sons went to Alberta, Canada and homesteaded.
It appears that they were after the free land whereever they could obtain
it. I know that my grandfather, James Francis Fay
(son of Daniel Fay) gave up his American Citizenship to homestead in Alberta,
Canada. I have the green cards (back when they were actually
green) for James Francis Fay and his wife, Mary Adalaide Doughty Fay (my
grandmother).
