Western Art is the name given to the tradition that began with
ancient civilizations around the Mediterranean Sea 5000 years
ago. These ancient peoples passed the disciplines of architecture,
painting, and sculputre to emerging nations and people who when
continued an added to them. While Western art is varied, it
is still the product of a long, distinguished tradition.
Since this tradition is so rich and varied, it is nearly
impossible to list all of it and do it justice. Instead, this
Exhibit focuses on the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: the
Great Pyramid of Giza, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue
of Zeus, the Temple of Artemis, the Colossus of Rhodes, the
Lighthouse at Alexandria, and the Mausolem of Mausollos of Caria.
Only the Great Pyramid of Giza remains of these wonders, and
all pictures of the other edifices are artists' interpretations.
