The Drawings in the  Chauvet Caves:

The caves at Chauvet were discovered in December of 1994 at Vallon-Pont-d'Arc in the Ardèche region of France by speleological surveyors  Jean-Marie Chauvet, Eliette Brunel-Deschamps and Christian Hillaire.

The cave incorporates several large galleries with over 300 paintings and engravings dating to the Paleolithic era. These works are between 32,000 and 30.000 years old and depict a unique and diverse menagerie inlcuding rhinoceroses, felines, bears, owls, and mammoths.

The cavern revealed many traces of human activity, including hearths, flintstones, and footprints. The cave is an outstanding research facility for archaeologists because it was completely undamaged by previous visitations.

The area was classified a historical monument because of the national and international artistic and archaeological attention it caused.
