1/22/05: Who knew copy editing paid so well?

So I'm sitting inside with the weather channel on and it's about to snow like crizazy. Like 12". Zany, I know. Figured I'd check out the web and see what was on. I came across this webpage, which I thought was kind of funny in a sick and perverted way.

Don't see 'A Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou'. It kind of sucks and was a big letdown.

Congrats to my boy Mike Morgan who had has best bowling game ever and also won the Strike pot for $200+! Be a winner like Mike and Join a bowling league today.

Caught a show last night too at Vox Populi. Mirror/Dash (Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore doing improv noise/feedback), Corsano and Flaherty (too jazz guys- the drummer is like a human hummingbird...perhaps the fastest drummer I have ever seen. Seriously. No Shit.), Nautical Almanac (goofy avant-garde noise) and BuzzardStain (more goofy noise, but the guys- one from wolf eyes and one from nautical almanac- wore bed sheet masks that were pretty scary and funny and played records with tons of abrasive noise and feedback). The show was fun in a self-damaging demented way.

Oh yeah, this website is like manna from heaven for music fans. I'm completely serious.

Slint are re-forming for a bunch of shows. I think I might try and see them in Philly, but I hate giving money to Clear Channel, who I believe own the venue and promote this show. Ugh.

So what's been on the turn table lately? I highly endorse each...

Crooked Fingers 'Dignity and Shame'

Trail of Dead 'Worlds Apart'

Excepter 'KA/Vacation'

Black Mountain "Druganaut" - this song is awesome. I need to get this LP.

Bloc Party 'Silent Alarm'

LCD Soundsystem 2xCD

the new Bright Eyes LPs (go see him at the Academy of Music in Philly!)

The Decemberists 'Picaresque'

[note: Unfortunately for the music industry, most of the above records have leaked to the internet. If you can, try and support these bands by actually purchasing records and seeing them live)

The new Beck has leaked. Not sure if I'm into his funky stuff. I think I really only like 'Sea Change', which was absolutely amazing and essential to own. Especially if you've ever had a heart aching break-up.

Did you know that Nabisco, who pretty much dominate the cookie and cracker aisle in most grocery stores, are owned by Kraft? Bet you didn't know that 84% of Kraft is owned by Phillip Morris, who changed their name a few years back to Altria so as to shed their 'big tobacco' image? Altria is also the largest share-holder in Miller Brewing. Yup, Fig Newtons and Kraft Easy Mac purchases go to ensuring that you will never know the ingredients in their cigarettes.
