Meeting Minutes for March 10, 2008

This meeting was held at North Augusta Public Safety Station II, North Augusta, South Carolina. Eighteen members attended. President Mark Ledford, KG4IUQ called the meeting to order. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Tom Arnold – W4KVF gave the report.

 

Secretary’s Report:

Don Zupon – W3MIF. There had been no corrections to the February meeting minutes report.  Don reported he will be traveling to visit ill family members in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.  He may miss a number of meetings.

Committee Reports:

Repeater

Dick Schoenfelder – K4FKJ reported no problems.

 

ARRL South Carolina Section Emergency Coordinator

Charlie Miller – AE4UX reported.

-  Boy Scout leaders meeting occurred in Aiken.  We will hear from them in the near future if the scouts will attend.

- Communication exercise “Comm-Ex 08” completed around Saluda.

- April drill will be “Vigilant Guard”.  This is a multi-state drill centered on Beufort, SC.  Drill will involve the National Guard.

- SC Hearts training sessions continue around the state.

- Hurricane conference will be in Myrtle Beach at end of March.

- Sponsored linked repeater to SC Hearts system will be in Beech Island on 146.85 MHz and a UHF repeater on an undetermined frequency.

 

ARRL South Carolina Section Manager

      James Boehner --  N2ZZ

      - Reminder SSB 50th anniversary lunch planned for April 5.

     - SSB Net anniversary net will be April 7 on 3.915 MHz.

Old Business:

Discuss Fox Hunt for March 22 on Saturday.  Location will be Harrison-Caver Park in Clearwater.  Thirteen members expressed interest in attending.  Food will be available.  All area hams have been invited to participate.

New Business:

Aiken Lions Club Expressed interest in collaborating with the club to establish and Emergency Response Team.  A meeting is planed for March 27 at 11:30.

 

Certificate of Appreciation

Charlie Wright, W4PED was presented with a Certificate honoring him for his service to the club and ham radio.  Club President Mark Ledford, KG4IUQ made the presentation featuring Charlie’s accomplishments.  Six terms as NABRC president, club officer for 12 years, founding member of the club 53 years ago, in 1969 was the publisher of the South Carolina News for the SSB Net, first trustee of the club repeater WR4ABB, 1976 received the ARRL Service Award, member A-1 Operator Club, past ARRL Roanoke Division assistant director, NABRC historian, published the NABRC history in 1988 that now appears on the web site, and was the very first recipient of the ARRL 5BDXCC in 1969.  All of Charlie’s accomplishments could not be summarized here.  Charlie accepted the certificate with his wife Nancy and son Jonathan at his sides.

Door prizes were given away.

Program

Jerry Flanders, W4UK.  Provided a program on roofing filters, transmitted IMD and general receiver performance.
