Meeting Minutes for Sept 8, 2008

The meeting was held at the North Augusta Public Safety Station #2

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Tom Arnold – W4KVF gave the report. 

 

Secretary’s Report:

AJ4AU - Carl Bosard reported.

 

 

Committee Reports:

A.    Repeater

KI4UMX (Hank) in South Augusta noted some interference, that he’s been hearing what sounds like the interference on the 146.730 frequency.

 

B.     Net Manager

KG4IUQ - Mark Ledford reported.

We had a check-in from Johns Island SC, about 15 miles south of Charleston during the Sept 7th CSLNet. AI4SS (Oscar) was about 119 miles away from the repeater.

 

C.   SC Section Emergency Coordinator AE4UX (Charlie) Reported.      

The final Situation report for Tropical storm Hanna - All shelters were now closed, highways and airports affected now reopened.  During the event 650 people were housed at 22 shelters.  No major damage or loss of life or severe injury was reported.

 

 

 

 

 

Old Business:

Radio Merit Badge class for local Boy Scouts on Oct 25th. This class was planned to be a Radio Merit Badge Day which would also include basic information on how to prepare for a Technician class VE exam. The class would be sponsored by the North Augusta Belvedere Radio Club, with Carl Bosard and Mark Ledford serving as instructors. Mark asked for volunteers to bring VHF mobile stations to the class so that the scouts could get on the air for 10 minute QSOs.

 

New Business:

Nominating Committee for November elections - Call was made for volunteers - none received.

 

KN4AV (Henry) has contributed very much toward packet radio ability in this area. There now was a Digipeater in Trenton (W4DV) on 145.01Mhz, and another digipeater (W4DV-1) in Augusta on the same frequency.

 

The Amateur Radio Club of Augusta will be holding the annual local Hamfest on Saturday October 11th. The Augusta Hamfest has been a very small Hamfest for the past several years.

 

The New Aiken ARES EC, Tom French Held a formation meeting on Sept 3rd, in Aiken.  Because James Tarpley has held training sessions for the Aiken Regional Medical Centers Station, and because some of our members attend the training, we have a few members invited to the meeting.  Some of us attended the Aiken ARES Formation Meeting.
