Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Tom Arnold – W4KVF was excused due to family
illness. AJ4AU gave the report.
Secretary’s Report
Secretary Steve Czaikowski, W8SC reported. The minutes from the August 10, 2009 meeting were read and approved.
No repeater problems were reported.
ARRL South Carolina Section Emergency Coordinator Charlie Miller – AE4UX reported that the Healthcare net will be restarted on September 17. The net meets on the 1st Thursday at 9:00 AM, and the 3rd Thursday at 9:00 PM on the SCHEART system.
ARRL South Carolina Section Manager Jim Boehner N2ZZ reported that the ad-hoc committee of the ARRL on the “Appropriate FCC Report” has completed their study and submitted their findings to the ARRL Board of Directors. This weekend all South Carolina operators are urged to join the South Carolina QSO Party. The Palmetto State Chapter of QCWA will hold their quarterly meeting on September 26 in Columbia. The PALS Net annual picnic will be held this weekend. Dr. Jim is running for Vice Director of the Roanoke Division, and all ARRL members are asked to endorse and vote for their favorite candidate. Dr. Jim’s information can be found on www.qsl.net/n2zz.
KQ4KK reported that the Schofield Middle School Amateur Radio Club meetings are held at 3:30 PM every Wednesday. They have their antennas for HF and VHF installed and are awaiting their transceivers. Aiken Prep is looking at Winter or Spring restart of their amateur radio club and station.
Dag Evans, W8LVL, constructed the 2-meter double-diamond antenna that was featured in the August 2009 issue of “QST” magazine, and donated the antenna to the club as a door prize at tonight’s meeting. All meeting attendees were eligible for the random drawing that was held, and the winner of the antenna was Ann Beach, KJ4MWM.
An excellent program on Using the Linux Operating System with Amateur Radio Applications was presented by William Kroes. Ralph Mott N4RM demonstrated some of the Amateur Radio applications installed on his laptop.
