Antenna Mast Replacement, RX 300

The antenna mast (a.k.a. telescoping element or rod) can easily be replaced in a few minutes. I recommend 2 people (my bride helps me out here). One to hold and reinsert the new mast (me) and one (the attractive one) to operate the radio controls and ignition switch.
I use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the mast (antenna rod) nut. See the first drawing in the pic below.

Basically, once the nut is removed
and you actuate the radio, per the instructions, the antenna is ejected and
you need to be
there to catch it so it does not hit the car and scratch the paint job. Thus,
2 people!
Same on installation, one to hold the new element (mast), inserting it and one to operate the radio/ignition as above.
I have never been successful at cleaning or repairing the removable elements. Replacement seems to be the only remedy.
