Biography

Born in New York City and raised on Long Island, NY, I was interested in arts and crafts from an early age. My favorite subjects in school were art and math. I enjoyed drawing until about age 20, when life got in the way. Pursuing a career as a Software Engineer, I earned a B.S. in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics in 1984, and an M.S. in Computer Science in 2001.

When I got out of college in the 1980s, I became interested in cars, eventually buying a 1985 Mazda RX-7. Its rotary engine fascinated me, and after joining an RX-7 club, I became involved in the sport of autocrossing. I kept this up until shortly after I moved to New Jersey in 1989, when a shortage of available parking lots to race in made it too inconvenient to continue.

Around the same time I was racing my car, I dabbled in 35mm film photography, but found the wait to see the results of my efforts frustrating. Much later, when digital photography became affordable, a new world opened up for me. The immediate feedback and reusable memory encouraged experimentation, dramatically shortening the learning curve and making photography fun! The ability to use both my technical and artistic abilities at the same time proved immensely satisfying. Suddenly my dual interests of art and math that seemed so odd in childhood became a perfect combination!

I moved from an all-in-one camera with manual controls, the Sony DSC-F707, to a series of Canon digital SLRs. The Sony's nightshot capability also lead to an interest in digital infrared photography, culminating in the conversion of my Canon EOS 10D into a dedicated infrared camera.

As my experience with photography and Adobe Photoshop grew, my interests started to head in the direction of digital art. Some of my work is photo manipulation, other pieces are created from scratch on the computer. Another creative pursuit I enjoy is web design. I have two web sites, this one and www.IDreamofLarry.com, about my favorite actor, Larry Hagman, who first caught my eye when I was 10!

Going back to my roots, I have started to draw again. The old fashioned way. With pencil and paper!
