At Red River Gorge

Climbing
I used to climb alot.  Ironically I did most of my climbing when I lived in Michigan, where there was practically no climbing at all.  I started climbing just before I turned 30 and spent many a Saturday or Sunday at Grand Ledge.  Those were fun days.  I can still remember how hard I worked to get Rocketman and Doug's Roof.  It was a special feeling to finally master those climbs.  About that time I stopped going there because a local gym opened up and, well, I got tired of the long drive from Detroit to Grand Ledge.  Instead, me and friends turned our attention to the Red River Gorge.  We made many trips down there in the Spring and Fall when the weather was at its best.  It's hard to believe that I did it, but in the most frenzied Fall of all, we made that (7+ hour) trip 10 times between September and November.  It was crazy but it was our lifestyle.  Over the years, we made trips to Colorado, California, Kentucky, Nevada, New York, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Canada to climb.
The passion was there and it motivated me to want to live in Colorado.  It took a while but I moved here in 1999.  It is ironic that I now climb less than I have in 12 years and yet climbing is what brought me here.  Life does that sometimes.
