Welcome!

You've stumbled upon Steve and Irene Bumgardner's web site. It's currently dedicated to chronicling our motorcycle vacations. The blanks will be filled in as I digitize images.

I started serious riding in 1973 when I bought a blue and white 1972 Suzuki T350J. A few years later I sold that and bought a turquoise 1950 FL Harley Davidson. It was a rat chopper and while it was a lot of fun to work on, it was not the sort of thing one put many miles on. I sold it and spent about five years a little too involved in bicycling. In 1990 I bought a 1985 Yamaha Venture Royale with 4800 miles on it. Might as well have been new.
Irene and I took some weekend jaunts through southern Indiana, then central and eastern Kentucky.
In 1990 we planned, and executed a trip from Front Royal, Virginia, down the Shenandoah National Park, then on to the southern end of The Blue Ridge Parkway at the Smokey Mountains National Park. I'll post pics once I get them all digitized.
In 1991 we did the Beartooth Parkway and the Rocky Mountain National Park.

In 1992 Irene and I took a major trip to Colorado. We rode what's left of Route 66 on the way out. Then we rode 2400 miles inside Colorado. On that trip we successfully rode Pike's Peak, Mount Evans, and Trail Ridge Road. We call it our Colorado Triple Crown. This was during the last week of July and the first week of August. The clouds rolled in while we were at the top of Pike's Peak. It sleeted on the way down.

In 1993 we took a trip to Missouri. Basically we did a big loop. Nice place. Later in the year we went back west, but took a car so our daughter could go too.

We basically had to stop taking our vacations on a motorcycle. In fact we nearly stopped taking vacations at all. Ahh the travails of parenthood. Have faith, they grow up whether you like it or not. When our nest became sufficiently empty I bought a new Royal Star Venture and we began to plan bike vacations again.

Our post medical adventures begin.
July 2 through 18, 2007, Irene and I went West on our beautiful new Venture. Our route was similar to our first adventure West. We went to the Badlands, Crazyhorse, and the Black Hills. From there we went to Red Lodge and rode up the Beartooth and down the Chief Joseph. We checked out Yellowstone to see how the place has grown since we were last there. We rode down Wind River Canyon - beautiful!
We spent a week in Fort Collins Colorado at the VentureRider.org International Rally. We rode Cache La Poudre Canyon, The Big Thompson Canyon, Trail Ridge Road, Mount Evans, Pike's Peak, and more. We met a lot of great people and had a wonderful time.
