A little history about our Club Massapoag Yacht Club is situated on the west shore of Lake Massapoag. It is a spring-fed lake surrounded by homes many of which were built in the 19th century as summer homes but are now year-round residences. Long before that, the Indians had used the area as a fishing and camping site before the Pilgrims arrived. The Massapoag Yacht Club held its first Race Day on August 15, 1948 and received its formal charter in 1949. It has been holding races ever since. From the end of April through early October the club holds races on Sunday afternoons and during the early summer there are races on Wednesday evenings also. The two main classes are the Flying Scot and the Day Sailer. However, there is a growing number of Sunfish and Lasers.
