Last Week’s Game:

Last week your Fighting Saints took on the Lake Park Lancers. The game started off with a bang as the Saints took the opening drive down the field 65 yds in just 5 plays for the first score of the game on a 30 yard TD run by senior running back Wes Allen. After a couple exchanges the Lancers tied the score at 7-7. The Saints followed suit by taking their next possession 60 yards on 12 plays for another Wes Allen score. The kick by junior kicker Dan Keller was good to stretch the lead to 14-7. The Lancers scored again and at the half the score was tied 14-14. The second half started with a tremendous interception by senior defensive back Peter Chacon but the Saints couldn’t convert and on the following possession the Lancers took a 20-14 lead. The Saints responded and drove the ball 66 yards on 8 running plays (that’s 8.25 yards per play for you math majors) to go ahead 21-20. On the following possession Saints’ senior linebacker Phil Kohlhagen intercepted another Lancers’ pass and gave the offense great field position. 4 plays and 29 yds later the ball was in the end-zone and STCE was up 28-20. The East defense held and gave the ball back to the offense, but a costly fumble stalled a great drive and set up the Lancers for the tying score. However in overtime, running back Wes Allen scored the last two of his 6 touchdowns and kicker Dan Keller was one better than the LP kicker and the Saints won the game 42-41. The game was more exciting than most people wanted, but a win is a win is a win.

This Week’s Game:

Neuqua Valley! This week the Saints travel down Eola Rd to play the Neuqua Valley Wildcats. Neuqua is always very talented and very physical. Neuqua’s defense has always been one of the toughest in the league and this year is no exception. They are using a new defensive scheme and the Wildcats are very difficult to block. Their offense has switched to a wild open style and can score on any play.

Keys to victory:

A victory this week will be a result of the big three: tackling, blocking and protecting the football. There is nothing more important to the game of football than those three fundamental concepts…and the lack there of was the reason things had to go to double overtime last Friday night. If the Saints take care of the “Big Three” the will have a great chance of winning.

From the Coach

Neuqua! The Wildcats have been our real nemesis the past few years and will no doubt be a great opponent once again. They are always very talented and can create problems in all three phases of the game. We know that consistent football is the only way to win games. Your Saints are determined to play a better brand of football and they have put in the work this week to make it happen. But as Julius Caesar said, “The die is cast”. The practice is over, the game plan is in and there is nothing left to do but see what happens when the ball is kicked off.

We know that the road to a second conference championship goes through 95th and 59 and we are aware that road is not always smooth sailing. The Saints could sure use your help to get that win tonight.

Hope to see you tonight! Come be a part of the SEA OF ORANGE! Kick-off is at 7:30
