In a tell-tale sign of things to come, East Aurora could not cover the opening
kickoff Friday, and St. Charles East recovered at the Tomcats 30. One minute and
three Zachary Zajicek runs later, the Saints took a 7-0 lead and didn't look back.
East Aurora did compile four first downs and used six minutes on the clock on
its opening drive, but it was the Tomcats' only offensive highlight as the Saints
(3-2, 3-0 Upstate Eight Conference) won 41-0.
Nolan Possley fired a 21-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Nutting near the end of
the first quarter for St. Charles East and followed with two strikes in the second.
Drayton Heather gathered in a 6-yard score and Jess Stiehl caught a 20-yard touchdown
as the Saints led 28-0 at halftime.
Zajicek had 111 rushing yards on 10 attempts in the half, and St. Charles East
pounded out 170 yards on 19 rushes. Possley was 7-of-13 for 119 yards.
East Aurora's Bryan Robinson and Tinard Thompson led the Tomcats' effort, but
they put up only 14 yards on 15 combined carries.
Possley had a touchdown sneak of 3 yards, and Corey Campbell also ran one in from
3 yards in the third quarter. With the lead at 41-0, the running clock finished
the contest.
The Tomcats (0-5, 0-3) did hold the Saints on a goal-line stand in the fourth
quarter.
