Hatchery Manager Opinions on Kingfishers

The Belted Kingfisher, with Great Blue Heron and Osprey, was among the most often-named predatory birds cited by hatchery managers. [ Parkhurst et al. ]

In a survey of state and private hatcheries in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, 1 out of 10 hatchery managers called Belted Kingfishers a significant predator. Predators were shot or trapped at over half the hatcheries responding to the survey.
