LOBSTERCON 2004
Sent to NEQRP 7/13/2004... Lobstercon was great. Here is my report. Friday arrived to ghost town (tents, campers, RVs, antennas, but no people -- oh wait, there's one -- pleased to meet you, Jerry), set up tent among clouds of mosquitoes (few bit), got in tent, drifted, drifted, heard ghost town return to life, stared at tent walls, eventually slept. Saturday poked around, learned new names and calls and met friendly folks, tossed a bottle and wire over a pine branch, saw a certain face for the first time in 18 years, had a welcome lunch feast, listened to some fine picking, snagged a few items at the swap, walked to the beach and saw mating horseshoe crabs, tossed a frisbee and lobbed a whiffle ball, worked 11 stations in 8 countries in 16 minutes, gorged on lobster and corn, got lucky twice in the raffle, slept soundly. Sunday did some dawn birding, watched some valiant kite efforts, visited some more, pushed swings, let bottle down from tree, packed up, said goodbyes (realizing how many hellos were yet to be said), arrived safely home. Thanks Rex and John for your hard work and warm welcomes and to everyone for making Lobstercon so rewarding. Thanks to James at Pacific Antenna for donating the PAC-12 to the raffle... an excellent addition to my antenna garden. |
