This was a pretty uneventful week. We're working on naps right now.  It's all much more complicated than you'd think it would be.

I taught him to stick his tongue out.  Maybe I shouldn't have done that.

David can get him to sleep much better than I can late in the evening.  You can see in this picture how most of his long newborn hair has fallen out.  He just has a monk fringe and a wispy comb-over remaining .  The bare patches are filling in with new fuzz, but it's too soon to tell what color it is.

  We were playing "got-your-hand"

Poor Tommy had his first cold this week.  It started last weekend and I took him to the doctor Monday because I thought there must be something wrong.  He was just crying inconsolably and refused to eat, but it never occurred to me that he might have a cold.  It turns out that he had a sore throat that made it hurt for him to nurse.  Tylenol solved the problem and he's back to his smiley self today.  Here are a couple of new pictures.

This new toy is a big hit. The star on the top plays songs whenever he pulls on or swats one of the other toys hard enough to shake the whole thing.  He loves it.

Tommy had a very fussy week this week.  I think he hit the 6-week growth spurt.  That's the only explanation I can think of for the fussiness.  He did have a few other mile stones this week.  We made our first foray out of the house alone together to Tuesday.  Naturally, we went to the library.  Tommy was very good the whole time.  On Wednesday I had a chance to weigh him on a baby scale -- fourteen pounds!  He's already in size 2 diapers and we'll probably have to move him to 6-9 month clothing in April.  On Thursday, Tommy discovered the television.  He's mesmerized by the screen, so much so that he can't look away and will start whimpering after 10 minutes or so.  Then we have to either turn it off or break his concentration by distracting him with a toy.  It's kind of funny.  I guess we'll have to start limiting our TV watching soon.  Well, that's the news for now.  Here are some new pictures.

See, I can make him laugh too.

Our first spring flowers.

This is what he looks like much of the time lately... in full voice.

David surprised me.

Here are two sets of three pictures.  Consider them the low-budget version of video.  Tommy in action!

Grumpy Baby...

Happy Baby!

Silly Daddy, you made me laugh.

The last of our extra help left Saturday.  We owe gigantic thanks to our parents for the wonderful two weeks of help.  Now that I'm home alone with Tommy while David is at work I really appreciate all the healthy meals and extra naps they gave me.  It will take me a while to get the hang of things around here so I might not put up very many pictures this week.  Here's one new one to tide you over.  (All of the pictures from last month are still available on the February 2004 page of the archive.)

You can barely see it, but Tommy is fascinated by his mobile.  It's kind of freaky looking, but everything I read said it was the most well-designed mobile for what babies are able to see.  I guess they were right since he will watch the brightly colored bird, monkey and frog with their black and white striped background shapes for 15 minutes at a time.  He coos and ooos and ahs, grinning and giggling, the entire time.  Of course, every time I clicked the camera he was between smiles.
