Tommy is 9 months old today! Thankfully, he's feeling better and is over his fever. He did get the Roseola rash, but it's pretty mild. He weighed 21 lbs 12 oz at his 9 month check-up today, and was 29 1/4 inches long. Man, he's tall!
Grandma Sylvia is here visiting this weekend. I'll take pictures of her visit and of Halloween and post them in November.
He's started playing around with perspective. He likes to look through any holes, especially cut-outs in board books. Anytime one of his toy buckets is empty, he puts it on his head. He especially likes the semi-clear ones because he can look through the walls. Yesterday he took at book and put it over his face like a tent and looked around under the edge.
He really likes to play chase. If we're in a room with him he'll crawl off at lightening speed and then stop and turn around and grin maniacally waiting for one of us to chase him. We run after him and grab him and yell "gotcha!". He laughs super hard when we do this.
That's all for this month!

Tommy has Roseola. Poor Tommy. We've had three nights of high fever and very little sleep. That's the normal length of time for fever with this common childhood illness, so I'm hoping we'll have a better night tonight. He seems to feel better right now. Hopefully we're past the worst of it.
Feeling better...
But still a bit punky

We randomly drove up to Santa Fe today. We were on our way home from Babies R Us and Tommy fell asleep in his car seat. We wanted to let him sleep so we just kept driving until we were in Santa Fe. We had a nice lunch (luckily I had some baby food and cheerios in the diaper bag) and spent a couple of hours playing at the Children's Museum. Unfortunately, we didn't have the camera with us. Tommy was too young for most of the stuff but he loved watching the other kids. There was a mirrored tunnel that he LOVED. He also enjoyed pulling himself up on and peering through the holes in a big wooden climbing thingy. He also seemed intrigued by the giant bubbles David blew and one of those things with the thousands of porcupine quills that you press to see a 3D image of your hand or face. Tommy slept again on the way home so we took the scenic Turquoise Trail home to maximize his nap. It was a very good day.
Can I just say that his continuous mamamama-ing melts my heart?
Captain Pajamas has some new
(longer!) duds.
He learned to clap
yesterday!!!! Go Tommy! You can't image how long it took me to get this
picture. Every time he sees the camera he stops what he's doing and crawls
towards it. I had to be very persuasive to get him to keep clapping long
enough to get the shot.

Sorry I haven't put any pictures up this week. He's trying to give up his morning nap, which is totally messing up my schedule. It hasn't been stressful, just hard to know when to do stuff. You know how I like to plan things. I think we've settled into a new schedule. In case you're interested, here it it. Wake at 5 to nurse and then go back to sleep until 7, breakfast at 7:30, nurse at 9, lunch at 11:30 (he's not really hungry for solids then but I can't figure out another time to do lunch), nurse and nap from 12-3 with about 1 hour of that in his crib and the other 2 hours on my lap, nurse at 4:30, dinner at 6, bath at 7:15, nurse at 7:30, in crib and asleep by 8, wake once to nurse around midnight. Of course, I also let him nurse at random times during the day when he just needs a little drink or a cuddle. Yes, he used to sleep all the way through the night. He did that from about 2 months to about 6 months. He started waking up again in the night when we started feeding him solids. I know that's not what's supposed to happen, but it seems to be what he needs. No, he's not just doing it out of habit. He's truly hungry. So all of you sleep training advocates out there just leave me alone...not that I'm defensive or anything. J
In other news, I think he's about ready to start refusing pureed baby food. He's all about the finger food lately. He'll only eat the pureed stuff if we feed it to him first, before there are any cheerios on his tray. It's a good thing his 9-month doctor visit is next week. I need to ask her how slowly we need to introduce new things at this point. He's ready to eat anything we'll give him from our plates and it would be much easier if we didn't have to worry about introducing one new food at at time. So far, he still just eats fruits, veggies, various baby cereals and cheerios. Adding rice, pasta, bread, cheese, fish and meats to the mix will be fun. I just want to be totally clear on the guidelines before starting. We did yogurt a few weeks ago but he had some pretty serious stomach aches a couple of nights that week. They didn't exactly coincide with the days I gave him yogurt, but I stopped giving it to him just in case.
Baby want camera.
You're really strange, Mommy.

Some random tidbits...
Sometimes when Tommy is standing and stomping his feet up and down, as he almost always is these days, he gets one of his pantlegs caught under the opposite foot. Eventually, his pants are down around his ankles. Moral outrage is the best way to describe his face when this happens.
He's decided that my eyelashes are the coolest things since Cheerios. A few days ago that meant he was constantly poking me in the eye. By this time, he's developed quite a light touch and can run his index finger across my eyelashes without poking me.
I forgot to mention that he officially babbles now. He started just after the first of the month. He frequently says nanana, mamama, lalalala, dadada, and others.
David's new game. Tommy
crawls over to him and climbs up until he can take the toy OFF Daddy's
head. Silly Daddy. Toys don't go on top of heads!
Bongo Boys
As soon as he hears the water
in the bathtub he goes nuts. I have to undress him on the floor now and I
usually do it while he's frantically crawling away. Here he is on his way
to the tub. (Hee! I figured out how to airbrush...)

I put the pictures of our vacation on a new page. If anyone wants copies of the pictures, let me know. I put skimpy versions of pictures on the website but can e-mail the larger files.

We're home! We had an excellent time visiting my with my parents and ALL the relatives. I'll write more details and put up most of the pictures tomorrow (or maybe over the weekend).

We leave for vacation on the Gulf Coast and New Orleans tomorrow. I'll have lots of pictures when we get home Wednesday October 13th. Here are a couple to tide you over until then.
I moved all his picture books
up to the top three shelves because he kept pulling them down on his head.
Socks are a delicious

I can't wait for Halloween! Only 31 more days.
Practicing walking
He was trapped behind the
coffee table so I could actually get a picture. He usually starts crawling
at lightning speed towards the camera as soon as he sees it. I'm having to
be really creative to get pictures.
Right after this one was
taken he lunged to the floor, towards the camera, and then was surprised when he
fell.
As you can see, he didn't
fall very hard.
