Dear City Council Members and City Officials:
On behalf of the 200+ members of the Sanibel Bicycle Club, I would like to express our appreciation for the Council’s decision on August 5th to continue pursuing the easements from property owners along the planned Periwinkle bypass shared-use path. As you know, the creation of this bypass to address the most dangerous section of Sanibel’s path system has been a high priority for the Club for a number of years.
We are aware of the difficulties faced by the City in addressing this bypass project in the context of the current difficult budget situation. We appreciate the leadership shown by the Council and City officials in making this decision. Although this particular Council vote was not unanimous, the City’s overwhelming and long-standing support of the island’s shared-use path system is not in doubt and each of you is to be commended for your support of this treasure.
We sincerely appreciate your willingness to give serious
consideration to the recommendations that the Club has brought before the City
this year. The Sanibel Bicycle Club will
be happy to work with the City on funding sources for the Periwinkle bypass
after the easements are
