The village of
San Pietro Apostolo, in the Province of Catanzaro, which is part of
Calabria.
From here came the earliest known ancestor of my family line, tentatively
identified as Tomaso DeSantis. Walking along the winding lanes in the
fall, you can stoop and pick up chestnuts as though they were pebbles on
a beach. Real chestnuts, the edible kind. Life is not easy in little villages
like this, yet if I were to imagine paradise...
