A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or
all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests, developed in early 1995 at Differentiating Instruction with Problem-Based Learning Activities Providing a
real-world experience with open-ended opportunities allows students to learn
how to learn while fostering critical thinking skills. Problem
Based Learning encompasses this inquiry-based experience and allows for
differentiated instruction and technology infusion. Participants will
explore some PBL activities, use guidelines for the development of
technology-infused PBL, and create assessment rubrics - all customized to
meet your district's needs. Collaborative Internet Projects Collaborative
Internet projects are opportunities for schools to join in curriculum
enhancing activities that are interdisciplinary by nature.
Collaborative Internet projects use the Internet to its fullest potential -
to communicate with students around the planet on commonalties and
differences in a variety of subject areas. These inquiry-oriented, problem-based projects allow for
true technology integration as opposed to mere technology usage. This
powerful communication bridges schools around the world and develops a global
community. Participants will view examples of collaborative Internet
projects, find collaborative Internet projects in which to join, learn tips
for participation, and learn steps for development of an original
problem-based project (come with ideas!). Design Your Own Interactive Online Scavenger Hunt Scavenger Hunts are a
great way for teachers to introduce a unit and integrate the Internet at the
same time. Scavenger Hunts (sometimes called Treasure Hunts) are a
guided set of questions that prompt students to search for their answers
using the Internet. When developed as an online form, the
students can use the Internet to find the answers, type them into the
provided form, and then click a
"submit" button to send them directly to your email.
Participants will come to the session with a topic in mind, learn to use
searching techniques to find appropriate and related web sites, develop
questions based on the information provided in the related sites, and then
use an online form template to make a Scavenger Hunt web page to be used in
the next day's class! Applications of Bloom's Taxonomy Using
Technology Resources to Promote Writing Across the Curriculum Using Inspiration or Kidspiration to Develop Concept Maps Using Inspiration you
can easily create and modify concept maps, webs, and other graphical
organizers. In this introductory workshop, participants will design a
visual outline and dynamic graphic organizers. Inspiration helps students understand the interrelationship of
ideas and how they need to be presented for greatest clarity and
effectiveness. Come with ideas for your own graphic organizer and leave
with a finished product. Kidspiration is the K-3
alternative that is kid friendly and fun to learn! Creating
Visual Diagrams to Promote Better Research has shown
that visual learning is one of the best methods for teaching thinking skills.
Visual learning techniques - graphical ways of working with ideas and
presenting information - teach students to think clearly, and to process,
organize and prioritize new information. Visual diagrams reveal patterns,
interrelationships and interdependencies. They also stimulate creative
thinking. Participants will use Inspiration Software to create brainstorming
and prewriting maps, concept maps, graphical
organizers for implementation into all subject areas. Come with ideas
to leave with a finished product. A basic knowledge of how to use Inspiration
Software is a prerequisite. Promoting
Creativity Using Kid Pix Deluxe Using
the Digital Camera to Enhance Instruction Filamentality - A Web Development Tool for Inquiry-Based Activities Providing a guided
Internet lesson for your students allows for increased student learning time
and decreased downtime. A webpage which includes a curricular focus
with a sound learning objective and links to pertinent websites provides an
efficient way for students to participate in an Internet-based learning
experience. Filamentality is an online process
which allows you to create such a webpage online. Come with ideas for such a
webpage and leave with a finished product! Learning and Integrating Microsoft PowerPoint Tired of
the same old transparencies? Would you like classroom presentations to
be more dynamic and colorful? Want to give students a tool to help them
with oral presentations? Then come learn PowerPoint in this
introductory workshop. PowerPoint is an application used to create
presentations, either on screen or in print. It can be used to create
handouts, slide shows, overhead transparencies, slides or printouts.
This course provides an introductory look at PowerPoint. At the end of
this course you will be able to create simple PowerPoint presentations - a
great way to enhance presentations in the classroom for both teachers and
students. Bring curriculum ideas and leave with a finished
product. Internet Basics for the Classroom Learn
how to use Internet tools to navigate the web! Search tools, web page evaluation,
bookmarking, and other important tasks will be
covered. To apply these tools, a "scavenger hunt" will be
completed as practice and as an example for classroom integration.
Favorite educational sites will also be explored using these tools.
Integrating the Internet Across the Curriculum In these
individualized workshops, participants will be exposed to powerful websites
pertaining to their curriculum, ways to find such sites, and ways to evaluate
them. Examples of Internet activities such as scavenger hunts,
collaborative Internet projects, and WebQuests will
be focused on. Classroom Web Page Development with Netscape Composer Jazz up your web
page! Do you need help in making your own home page? Do you need
help in updating your existing home page? Or would you like to make
additional web pages to link to your home page? Come to this session to
do it all! You will learn how to create new web pages, link to other
pages, add graphics, upload your webpages, and much
more. Be sure to come to the session with your ideas for a productive
make-and-take session. Creative Projects Using Popular Computer

Web Searching Tips and Tricks Make-and-Take - Free Web-Based
Activities Using
Cooperative Learning in the Technology-Infused Classroom The Digital Portfolio Mystery Festival uses a classroom learning-station format; students study a "crime scene," then conduct crime-lab tests on the evidence, analyze the results, and try to solve the mystery. These forensic science activities absorb students from the start and keep them intensely involved throughout. In this workshop, teachers will play the role of students/detectives to uncover the mystery. Cobalt Web Page Builder Training
