Assembly Yahoo E-mail Group Information

Bishop McNamara Assembly Yahoo E-mail Group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Bishop_McNamara_Assembly_384/

The Yahoo Group is used primarily for the distribution of e-mails to members of the Assembly.

  1. Any member of our Assembly may join.
  2. If you have a Yahoo ID established, you can also access the online part of the Assembly Yahoo website (link is below).  This allows you to download our Assembly Newsletter, for example. The Newsletter is available on our Assembly web site.
  3. If you wish to post a message, use the address shown below.  The Board is moderated and the Faithful Navigator and his moderators reserve the right to edit any post for brevity, etc.
  4. The Faithful Navigator has established guidelines as to what can go out.  Sick notices, changes in Degrees, cancellations of events, etc. are all to be posted automatically.
  5. ALL sick notices, death notices or requests for prayers will be sent on immediately. However, please obtain the permission of the person who is ill or a family before posting any specifics.   It is one thing to ask for prayers for Brother A because he is very ill or he suddenly became ill.   It is another to go into specifics as to the cause or severity.  Not every family wants this information disseminated!  I have had to edit this information out when I thought it was too specific.  This is a privacy issue!

Bishop McNamara Assembly Yahoo Group Mailing List Tutorial

The purpose of this tutorial is to get new members familiar with our Assembly’s Yahoo mailing list.  Our Assembly’s mailing list was set up to disseminate news and critical information.  All members of our Assembly are encouraged to subscribe to the mailing list in order to be reminded about Program information, Degree schedule changes, sick notices and other news related to our group.   If you belong to other mailing groups on Yahoo! then most of the information in this tutorial should be very familiar.

Subscribing to Our Assembly’s mailing list

To subscribe to our Assembly’s mailing list, log onto the Internet, bring up a browser and go to or type in the internet URL (universal resource locator) address:

Creating a Yahoo! Account

Creating a Yahoo! Account is easy. Enter in a Yahoo! ID name. You might have to be creative since Yahoo! IDs need to be unique. For example you can append numbers to a common name. BTW, if you chose a Yahoo! ID that is already taken, Yahoo! Will recommend alternate IDs.  Next, enter in a password for this account.  Make sure you use a good password that is hard to guess and at least 8 characters long. If you must write down the password because you might forget it, write it down in a secure location. Yahoo! Also provides a hint feature in case you forget your password.

You will be given the choice between using an alternate email address or setting up a new Yahoo! Email account.  Choose the option that will give you the best chance to see our ASSEMBLY-related messages. For most people, this means entering the email of their Internet Service Provider.   YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE OR CREATE A NEW YAHOO EMAIL ACCOUNT.

Yahoo! Will ask you other questions during the new user registration process.  We suggest you provide the least amount of information possible.  Also, be sure NOT to accept the free emails on various interests so your name is not added to current mailing lists.  Comments are needed so we know what Assembly to which you belong and your current position within the Assembly.

After you create the user account, you will be asked to verify the “alternate” email account you have entered in the previous step.  Enter in the Email Confirmation Code sent to your email and the Yahoo! Password you created in the Email Verification page.

Before you can subscribe to our Assembly mailing list, Yahoo! Will ask you to set your message delivery preferences. The choices include:

Individual emails: to send individual email messages

In the Message format section, you have two choices:

Most users might select Convert to HTML, unless their email cannot properly display HTML messages.  I use Text messages to keep images sent to me at a minimum.

Once you set your preferences, select the join button and you are now a pending member of our Assembly group.  Once the notice is sent to the moderators, they will check to see if the user is a K of C member (they usually get this information from the “comments section”) and approve it automatically.
