Up coming dates, Mark your calendars!

September 13, 2  to 5 - Activities for kids

If you plan to attend the September 13 meeting, could you please bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the church?  At March's meeting, we decided that this would be a great way to show our appreciation to the church for letting us hold our SBAM meetings at the church.  The donated food items will be used to replenish the church's food pantry that is used to feed less fortunate families each week.

The meetings will be held at the Trinity Assembly of God, 2122 West Joppa Rd.

Directions: Take 695 to Falls Road (23B). At the first traffic light, make a right onto Joppa Road

Cross over the bridge and the Church is located on the left.  We will meet in the Fellowship Hall

Happy Birthday

Brace Fund

If you would like to be reimbursed for 2009 medical expenses, you can turn in your paperwork at the September 13 general meeting. We will process your claim quickly, most times by the end of the meeting.

Here are two important points.

1.       The medical expenses must be related to spina bifida (such as a wheelchair, leg braces, expenses related to orthopedics or neurology, catheters, etc.).

2.       Bring original bills & receipts, not photocopies.  If you want to retain copies for your own records, be sure to copy them before you come to the meeting because we do not have a copy machine at the meeting.

To elaborate on item # 2, it's important for you to provide original documents showing that you paid for the item.

·         For small items such as diapers, the cash register tape is sufficient.

·         If the item is a prescription, bring the "pharmacy slip" not the cash register receipt.  The "pharmacy slip" shows the name of the patient and medication.

·         For larger bills (over $50), bring the cancelled check if you paid by check or the credit card statement if you charged it. We realize many banks have discontinued sending cancelled checks to customers.  If your bank does not give you cancelled checks, bring whatever document they give you.  Again, bring original documents, not copies.

If you have suggestions, comments or questions about the Brace Fund, please send them to Dan Palich palich@comcast.net.

Thank You Corvette Club

Brace Fund & Camp Fund--Description of Coverage

Brace Fund

1.       Orthopedic braces--Covered.

2.       Equipment--Everyday equipment related to spina bifida is covered (for example, wheelchair for everyday use, shower chair, walker).  Wheelchair repairs are covered.

3.       Doctors & hospitals--If it is related to spina bifida, it is covered.  For example, medical care related to hydrocephalus, scoliosis, pressure sores, urological infections and latex allergy is covered.    Medical care for items not related to spina bifida is not covered (for example, flu, allergies to pollen, inoculations, physicals).

4.       Prescriptions--Prescriptions related to spina bifida are covered (for example, bladder medication).  Prescriptions not related to spina bifida are not covered.  Over-the counter items such as vitamins and supplements are not covered.

5.       Wheelchair ramp--The installation of a ramp is covered.  After the initial installation, maintenance is not covered (such as repairs, power-washing, staining and water-proofing).

6.       Making the house accessible--Permanent structural changes unique to wheelchairs are covered (for example, widening doorways or installing a wheel-in shower).  Garage doors and openers are not covered.

7.       Urological supplies (such as catheters and KY jelly)--Covered.

8.       Incontinence garments (person with spina bifida must be over 2-years' old)--Covered.

9.       Eye exams and eye glasses & lens--Covered.  Sunglasses are not covered.

10.    Basic lessons (such as driving lessons) are not covered.  However, extra costs related to spina bifida are covered.  For example, let's say the basic cost of drivers' education is $200.  That would not be covered.  If the lessons took longer and the cost was higher ($350) because the person used a wheelchair and hand controls, the Brace Fund would cover the extra cost.  In this example, the Brace Fund would cover $150.

11.    The basic cost of recreational equipment is not covered.  However, extra costs related to spina bifida are covered.

12.    Vehicles--Vehicles are not covered but wheelchair lifts and hand-controls are covered.

13.    Transportation; parking; lodging; meals--Not covered.

14.    Apparel--Clothes, shoes, boots, coats, hats, ponchos, etc. are not covered.

15.    Paper towels and wipes--Except for diapers, paper products are not covered.

16.    You must verify your identity and that you have spina bifida.

17.    You must file timely.  Specifically, claims for services or purchases for 2009 must be filed by January 31, 2010.

18.    You must provide the original copies of proof of payment (for example, your original credit card statement or the cancelled check your bank sends you).  No photocopies.

19.    There is a limit on how much you can receive for a year.  "Year" is the year you purchased the item or received the service (whichever comes first is the "year").  For example, if you are hospitalized in December 2008 but receive or pay the bill in January 2009, that expense is a 2008 expense (not a 2009 expense) because you received the service in 2008.

20.    You cannot carry over an item from year to year.  For example, if you partially pay for an item in 2008, you cannot claim the rest of the cost in a following year.

21.    There is a limit on the number of checks you can receive.  The limit is 4 checks per year.

Camp Fund

1.       Fees for camps that specialize in serving people with disabilities--Covered.

2.       The registration fee for the annual SBAA conference--Covered.

3.       Transportation; parking; lodging; meals--Not covered.

4.       The Camp Fund covers only the person with spina bifida.  The costs for family members or companions are not covered.

5.       You must verify your identity and that you have spina bifida.

6.       You must file timely.  Specifically, bills for camp for 2009 must be filed in 2009.
