Hi!! My name is Lopa Bhattacharjea a.k.a(as all the Bengali people call me). Welcome to my webpage. I learned HTML from my younger brother Raj, who is the computer genius of our family. I'm still learning new things from him.

I was born on December 4, 1976 in Dhaka Bangladesh.
This picture is of me with my parents when I was little.

We moved to the US when I was five years old. At first we lived in Philadelphia, Pensylvania, in the the middle of Center City very close to the City Hall. After a few years, we moved from the city to Southern New Jersey. Though we no longer live up there, both places hold a special place in my heart. We still have lots of friends in that area and we go back often to visit.

In 1988, we moved to Augusta, Georgia. Augusta is a great place (I can't believe I just said that :-), but I must admit it is a nice, quiet town. We've now been here for 14 years and it has become home. Afther moving to Augusta, I started 7th grade at Columbia Middle School in 1988. Two years later, I started high school. One of the great things started by then Governor of Georgia, Zel Miller was the HOPE Scholarship which gave every college student, going to a state college or university, with a 3.0 GPA, a scholarship that paid full tuition and some money for books. Afer four years of hard work, I graduated High School as a member of the Class of 1994 from Evans High.

After graduation, I decided to go to the University of Georgia (UGA) to major in Business at the Terry College of Business. UGA is located in Athens, GA which in one of the greatest college towns in the world! The campus is beautiful and downtown Athens always had fun things for students to do. The only problem, the classes are HUGE. I still remember taking classes in auditoriums with 299 other students. Talk about the high student to teacher ratio.

After a little more than two years at UGA, I decided to transfer to a University that was closer to home. Augusta State University (ASU) had a good business department with small class sizes which was just what I was looking for.

On May 8th 1999, I graduated from ASU with my BBA(Bachelors in Business Administration) degree. It was exactly thirty years after my father graduated from his university.

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roades diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

--from The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

After graduation, I decided to stay on full time with the company that I was working for during the school year. MedNet Physician Resources is a billing company that does Anesthesia billing for groups all through the USA. The people there are great and fun to work with. When I first started working there back in June of 98, there were only 10 employees. Now we have more than 70! The company is expanding dramatically and I have luckily grown with them. For the past year, I have been working as their Human Resource Manager.

With the start of the new Millennium, I decided to do something new with my life. On January 10th, 2000, I started MBA classes at Augusta State University. They offer all MBA classes at night so the students can continue to work during the day. On July 8th of 2002, I had my final class in my MBA program! Though graduation isn't officially until December of this year, I am done with classes forever! Now, it is on to bigger and better things
I'm not sure what the future holds for me next. For as long as I could remember, I have been going to school. But I know for sure that a PhD is out of the question for me, at least in the near future. So, since I can't become a career student, I guess that means its time for me to enter the work world. Well, as I stated above, I already have a job. I like working in Human Resources, but I have been here in little ole Augusta, GA for too long. I'm looking forward to finding a job in a big city somewhere away from here!:-)

I been bummin' around this old town so long
I been hanginaround this town on the corner
I been bummin' around this old town for way, way, way, way, way too long
