This web site contains an exhaustive listing of all known music released on Wax Trax Records, an independent record label originally based in Chicago, Illinois, USA. I first became obsessed with the "Wax Trax Records Sound" around 1989, during college, arguably at the label's peak. At the time, I did not realize that Wax Trax was responsible for releasing several tunes that had influenced me to get interested in electronic dance music. Among them were Ministry's "Every Day Is Halloween" and "The Nature Of Love" in 1984, Front 242's "Welcome To Paradise" and A Split-Second's "Rigor Mortis" from 1988. When a college friend played the Front 242 track, I wanted to know more about the band and the label. The rest is industrial music history. The more Wax Trax records I heard, the more I wanted.
In recent years, Wax Trax Records has partially changed its focus from industrial-dance music to techno. The label experienced financial troubles in 1992 when most of its bigger-selling acts moved to other record labels, and escaped bankruptcy only after joining with TVT Records. But the beat goes on. With innovative musicians such as KMFDM, Psykosonik, Underworld, Sister Machine Gun, and Juno Reactor on the roster, the future still seems bright.
Thanks go to everyone who maintains a discography or web site for any band that has ever been on Wax Trax Records. There's a pretty good chance that I "extracted" some information from each of your pages. Most of those pages can be found on my Wax Trax links page, and I apologize if I missed any. Let me know by e-mail if you have a page that should be added to my links, or if you have any corrections or comments.
Special thanks go to Jim Nash and Danny Fleisher, the men who made Wax Trax a reality for all those years, all at Wax Trax and TVT Records, and everybody who's ever been in a Wax Trax band.
