The Flora of:
Baja California

 January 1993..........
Eighteen brave souls, in a rental van, a 1978 ford pick up and a small station wagon, from St. Mary's College of California, set off on a month long course to study the ecology of Baja California.  As throughout their trip, the timing couldn't have been better.  During their first night in Baja, the "Hundred Year" floods came, wiping out bridges and communications back to the school. This did not dampen their "spirits" though. (They were plenty spirited throughout the trip in more ways than one) For this group of adventures had a map,  some knowledge of rain shadows and the stupidity to drive down the "back" road into Baja.  After completing this thirty mile dirt road, that at some points could barely fit the van, they encountered some of the most beautiful country side in Mexico.  They continued down the Baja peninsula, high and dry having the time of their lives as friends,  and family were convinced that this group was having a horrible time with all of the rain.  To this day none of the members of this group have any remorse to the fact they were exploring the very diverse lands of Baja as those back home worried about them.  These pictures are some of the things this group saw............
