In the Sierra Nevada Mountains,
about forty miles from Reno (Nevada) is Lake Tahoe. The lake is physically
located on the boarder between Nevada and California just past Donner summit.
The area around the lake is extremely beautiful, especially in the winter
time when everything is snow covered. In the summer time there are numerous trails to hike on or beaches to lay on. Therefore, the area is a Mecca
for outdoors' enthusiasts year round. On a to Reno (a friend of mine went to school there) I
took the time to take photos of North Lake Tahoe in the winter time and I am posting them
here so everyone, all over the world can share the beauty of this area.
The Lake Tahoe basin was formed by glaciers during the last Ice Age.
As you look around the bowl you can still imagine the giant sheets of ice working
their way down from the mountain tops. When the ice melted it left a very impressive, and beautiful granite bowl for water to collect in from
all of the snow the region gets. All of the water in the lake is all snow/ice melt
and is very, very cold. However, it makes for extremely blue waters during
the summer time as you can see in my pictures from Sand Harbor. The level of the lake has gone up and down over the years. Part of the variation is caused by different amounts of rain. However, MAN is the main cause, diverting water from the lake. Scientists also do not know how deep the lake is either, in some places its extremely deep.
