Dr. Richard Scharine

Richard G Scharine is an emeritus professor of
theatre and adjunct professor of ethnic studies at the University
of Utah. Dr. Scharine recently retired as Interim Chair of the
Theatre Department, for which he previously served as Director
of Graduate Studies, head of the B.A. program, and co-founder
of the London Study Abroad Program. The author of a number of
books and articles on British contemporary theatre, American political
theatre, and African-American theatre, Dr. Scharine is a former
Outstanding Educator of America, Senior Fulbright Lecturer in
Poland, College of Fine Arts Faculty Achievement Award winner,
University of Utah Diversity Award winner, and Distinguished University
Professor. Co-director of People Productions, an African-American
themed theatre, he has directed over 80 plays and has acted in
ten states and seven foreign countries.
