This
is Trudy. Don't make eye contact with her until she gets used to you. Don't bend
down to put your face next to hers. You'll want to, but don't do it! She has a
talent for getting her tongue inside your mouth, so be careful. Trudy is happy.
Trudy is athletic and stronger than everyone else. Trudy can jump really high.
She weighs 40 pounds now, and probably won't get any bigger. Her mother was a
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and her father was someone else - presumably a
black lab of some sort. Consequently, she thinks she's a lap dog, but bounds
like a lab. When she calms down, she's much calmer than a lab. But wait for her
to calm down. It doesn't take very long...maybe fifteen minutes. It will take
less time if you follow my instructions and pay no attention to her.
On April 23, 2005, Mary told me about an advertisement for an eight-month old half Cavalier King Charles puppy available in Albany. It was an illustration of why Corvallis is better than Seattle...no such puppy being available in Seattle! She sounded so sad that I told her I would inspect this puppy.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are small lap dogs. A puppy, if you can find one, costs around $1,500. I was warned that "Lucy" didn't look like her mother. "Lucy" came with a dog house and toys and a container of food. These people didn't really want a dog...they were keeping her outside...albeit in a nice little dog house in a fenced back yard...but she didn't seem to belong to the family. The Siamese cat clearly had no use for her.
I knew as soon as she knocked me down that Daniel would love her...so she came home with me and the next day Molly and Will drove her up to Seattle and gave her to Mary and Daniel. I chose this dog for them, and I feel a little bit guilty when she's difficult, but everyone loves Trudy...how can you not love Trudy?
