... being images with attempts and pretensions at a little artistry

Among the many vacation pictures linked to this site (Picture Album: 2002-2007) are some in which I sought to capture images with other than "we-were-here" content, where the content or composition especially engaged my interest. These are displayed here, distilled from all the others. Most fit into the genre of nature photography, for which I've long had a passion, especially close-ups.

There are also other photos, generally local and not a part of larger and longer trips, which have not had a forum for display.

All of these pictures were taken with a 3.3 megapixel digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 995. But for someone who enjoyed analog SLR photography (and has trays upon trays of slides to prove it), a digital camera has certain disadvantages along with the great benefits of image handling and presentation. With the development of affordable digital SLR's, I'm certain that there will be one in my near future.

Note added 6/11/07: Since Dec. 2006, I've enjoyed a new Digital SLR - the Sony Alpha - with 10.2 megapixels and in-camera image stabilization, an 18-200 mm zoom lens (effectively 27-300 mm), and a 2 gigabyte memory card. As soon as I started using it, I shut off automatic focusing and have gone with manual exclusively. Image quality has been very good, and the image stabilization allows me to take indoor photos that were next to impossible before.
