Summary of the Re-Dedication

The 90th PA Volunteer Infantry Regiments rededication ceremony
took
place at 12.30 pm on Sept 18 at Antietam National Battlefield 
Sharpsburg Md.  Thanks to the exemplary efforts of the 90th PA 
P.V.I Monument Inc spearheaded by Erick Schmincke, Paula 
Gidjunis, the late Jim Durkin and many others saw the fruits of their
 labor come into reality yesterday.  Eric Schmincke precided as master
of ceremonies and there were many dignataries  present.  There was
an opening prayer of tribute by Herb Kaufman Chaplain Anna M.
Ross Camp #1 S.U.V.C.W. Philadelphia PA.  The services commenced
with the 90th PA portrayed by the Mifflin Guard under the leadership
of Col Scott Washburn Comnanding presenting the colors.

       Hugh Boyle, President of the Delaware Valley Civil War Roundtable
gave a stirring tribute about everyone's friend Jim Durkin. Who gave
not only his time and talent  and treasure to the project.

     Other dignitaries John Howard Superintendent Antietam National
Battlefield thanked 90th P.V.I Momument restoration committee on behalf
of the American people, Sculptor Gary Casteel presented his thoughts 
on how he became involved in the project.

     Ted Alexander lead histortorian at Antietam National Battlefield gave an
well prepared  presentation about the 90th P.V. I.  The unveiling of the
monument was by Harry and Jean Lamb of the G.A..R. Civil War
Musuem and Library in Philadelphia.

      The Placing of the Memorial wreaths were by Paula Gidjunis of the 90th
PA monument and Lesley Casteel Sculptor and John T McNulty G.A.R. 
Civil War Museum and Library.

        Dr Anthony Waskie provided additional  words of thanks to the committee

         Jeff Heagy 28th P.V.I. Brass band played taps and the Mifflin Guard
fired volleys to salute this glorious moment.

         Participants where able to sign their names to an American Flag that
will become part of the 90th PA's history

         This reporter apoligizes in advance for any omission of dignitaries
present at the ceremony.

      Thanks to all who made the journey to Antietam despite the terrible
wrath of Hurricane Ivan the night before and his blustery exit 
during  the ceremony.
