About Scientia
Scientia is a project by Sharon Hill ("scientia@comcast.net"). This web page is designed to show the importance of science education and promote understanding for the general public. The goal of this site is to outline the way the public gets its science information, how good the information is, and how it should be used properly in order to make sense of it all. In addition, Scientia will stress the difference between real science and pseudoscience and help the average person without a science background to understand the difference. The scientific process - controlled experimentation, proper research, attention to detail, and peer review - is crucial to our society today. Unfortunately, many money-making schemes, news stories, books and television programs are decorated with "science-like" trappings but fail to be critical of the topic as is necessary. In order to make the best decisions regarding health, the environment, technology, and how best to spend personal and taxpayer money, citizens must have a basic knowledge of the sciences and understand how knowledge is accepted as valid in our society. Knowledge is power.
