Although
Sonny has confessed to begin the father of Sam's baby, Carly continues
to keep the secret of his other child...Kristina Davis. Meanwhile, Carly
goes on a search for her own father, who never knew of her existence.
She finds him in NYC, and he is John Durant, a Federal Prosecutor who
is considered a major mob buster. Of course, as soon as he finds out
his new daughter is married to Sonny Corinthos, he sets about trying
to bring Sonny down. Carly refused to break ties with him...once again
choosing an enemy over her own husband. Durant teams up with Ric Lansing
(who is now the DA of Port Charles).
Kristina
becomes very ill, and needs a bone marrow transplant. Alexis still refuses
to tell Sonny the truth, and tries every other avenue to find a donor.
Finally, she runs out of options, and tells Carly she's going to spill
the beans. Knowing how upset Sonny will be with her for keeping the
secret, Carly insists on telling him herself. Sonny's reaction is expected.
He feels betrayed, and ends the marriage for good. He turns out to not
be a donor match for his child, but the baby that Sam McCall is carrying
can save Kristina's life. Alexis asks Sonny & Sam to induce labor
and give Kristina the baby's stem cells. Sonny says it's Sam's call,
and Sam refuses to induce. Alexis berates her, and Sam goes into premature
labor. The baby is stillborn, and Sam and Sonny are devastated. But,
the stem cells do save Kristina's life.
Sonny
decides to fight for custody of Kristina, since Alexis insists he can
be no part of the child's life. John Durant gets access to very damaging
evidence against Sonny...which he anonymously gives to Ric. Ric had
discovered that Sonny was Kristina's father, before it was revealed
to the world. Always wanting to get one up on his brother, he got close
to Alexis. When Sonny started pursuing custody, Ric suggested to Alexis
that they marry. She agreed, not knowing his true motives. Ric shares
the evidence with Alexis, who steals it (from Ric's apartment, where
Carly had tried to burn the evidence up), and tries to blackmail Sonny
with it. Sonny proves the "evidence" was obtained illegally,
and can't be used against him. Eventually, he agrees to unlimited visitation
right, and lets Alexis keep custody of Kristina. Sonny becomes friends
with the custody attorney he hired for the case...Jordan Baines. Jordan
tells him about a beautiful mansion that is up for sale, but Sonny has
no interest in it. During Christmas, Michael sees an advertisement for
the house, and begs Sonny to buy it. Coincidentally, Ric is planning
to buy the same house, for him, Alexis and Kristina. Ric lets Sonny
know this, and Sonny buys the house to spite Ric.
But
even before Sonny can move in, his enemies start using the house to
hurt him. They set up hidden cameras and bugs all over the place, and
plan to kidnap his children. When Kristina is taken during a visit with
her father, Sonny becomes enraged and springs into action. At first,
he believes that Sam McCall took Kristina. The FBI is called in, and
new woman enters Sonny's life...Agent Reese Marshall.
