The History of Sonny Corinthos:

The Second Coming — December 1998 to 2003

While Sonny and Carly were making excellent use of the wall, nightstand, and bed in his room, Jason was attending a meeting with Moreno in Sonny's place. He walked right into an ambush, and was shot. While returning fire, he managed to wound Moreno. Sorel saw the opportunity to take over, and finished Moreno off himself. Jason stumbled back to the Penthouse with a bullet wound, only to find Sonny sitting on the couch, and Carly coming down the stairs dressed only in Sonny's shirt. Stunned by what he saw, Jason turned and left. Carly begged Sonny to go after him, but Sonny told her that Jason had every right to hate them both. Elizabeth Webber found Jason bleeding in the snow, and took care of him. She went and got Sonny to help, but Jason didn't want any part of him. Jason refused to see Carly too. As part of the fallout, Carly told Hannah, who was now living with Sonny, that they knew she was FBI. Sonny tossed Carly out, and then told Hannah he'd known for months and had been using her just like she used him. Hannah was devastated, since she'd chosen to be with Sonny over doing her duty. Sonny kicked her to the curb...but Hannah couldn't stay away from him. She followed him around, and begged him to forgive her. Sonny wouldn't hear it. Due to her friendship with Jason, Elizabeth Webber soon became a target for Sorel, who planted a bomb in her art studio. Jason decided that everyone would be better off if he left town. Sonny assumed it was because of what he and Carly had done, but Jason assured him that he was forgiven. Jason then told Sonny he was the only father he'd ever know, and Sonny tearfully asked Jason not to die on him. That same day, Carly realized she was pregnant with Sonny's child.

After considering abortion, Carly decided to pass the baby off as her husband AJ's; which was difficult, since they didn't sleep together. She managed to seduce him one night, but AJ found out the next day that Carly was pregnant and assumed the baby was Jason's. He told Carly he would raise the child as his own, just like Jason had raised his son Michael for the first two years of his life. But Sonny figured it out as well, and knew the baby was his. He confronted Carly at the Quartermaines, and although she admitted the truth, she also told him that she was staying put. Edward and AJ were putting incredible pressure on her, and swore they'd get Michael from her if she left. Sonny wasn't so easily put off. Then, Jason called him with information that solved the whole problem. During Jason's custody battle with AJ over Michael, AJ had hired an arsonist to burn down the Corinthos/Morgan Warehouse, thus painting Jason as too dangerous to raise a child. Jason tracked down the arsonist, and gave Sonny all the proof he needed to get Carly and Michael away from AJ. Sonny told Jason that Carly was pregnant with his child. He then went to the Quartermaine mansion and told AJ to sign away all his rights to Michael, or go to jail for arson. AJ signed, and Sonny took Carly and Michael home with him. Carly fought him at every turn; she wanted to go live with her mother Bobbie. But Sonny was insistent that they live together. They started to get closer, and eventually got intimate again. One tragic day, Edward Quartermaine asked Sonny to come to the Q mansion for a meeting. Carly went with him to visit Lila, and got into a confrontation with a drunken AJ on the stairs. AJ grabbed her wrist, and as Carly pulled away, she fell. Sonny found her unconscious and bleeding, and she was rushed to GH. Carly's old boyfriend Dr. Tony Jones told Sonny that they'd have to take the baby to save Carly's life. Crushed that yet another child of his wouldn't be born, Sonny gave the OK. After the miscarriage, Sonny and Carly tried to help each other heal. Carly decided she wanted revenge on AJ, and pulled a gun on him at the Nurse's Ball. Sonny talked her down, and then whisked her off to his island for some R&R. They reconnected yet again while there, but Carly overheard Sonny talking to Benny and assumed that Sonny saw her only as an obligation. When they returned to Port Charles, Carly and Micheal moved out. Sonny was hurt, but too proud to let her know it. Sonny's father Mike got in deep with a loan shark who worked for Sorel, and too ashamed to go to Sonny, he went to Carly for help. Carly asked Sonny for $40,000 for a house, but the money was really for Mike. But Carly put conditions on the bailout; she wanted to know where and when Mike would be meeting Sorel. Armed with that information, Carly set a plan in motion to tape Sorel extorting the money from Mike, and called the police to arrest him. She didn't know that Sorel had already contacted Sonny, and that's who she caught on tape...and that's who the police nabbed.
