Sonny
was shaken to see his old love Brenda again; especially since she'd
been presumed dead for 5 years. Unfortunately, there was no time for
a tearful reunion, as Roy shot Sonny according to their plan. Sonny
was wearing a bulletproof vest, but faked being killed. Brenda ran screaming
to his side, and cradled him in her arms until Jason showed up and dragged
her away. Sonny hid out in a safe house, with Brenda being held in another
room. He couldn't resist finding ways to watch her through the window,
and he also listened to her through an air vent as she mourned and reminisced
about him. Sonny left the safe house for his “funeral” and
went home to Carly soon after that. Eventually, Brenda escaped from
the safe house and ran to Jax. Alcazar caught up with them at Brenda's
old cottage, and shot Jax. Sonny showed up just in time, and shot Alcazar.
Now it was Brenda's turn to be stunned to see Sonny standing there alive.
In
the safehouse, Brenda explained to Jason that she stayed “dead”
all those years because she had the same terminal illness that her mother
had, and she didn't want to hurt anyone she loved. Jason was afraid
that Brenda would cause trouble for Sonny and Carly, since once Carly
found out that Brenda was alive, she started losing it. Brenda even
threatened to make trouble for them, unless Jason would marry her and
take care of her as she died from her illness. Jason agreed, and they
ran off to Las Vegas and tied the knot. That complicated things for
Jason, who had started falling for Sonny's sister Courtney. Courtney
was still married to AJ, and was being stalked (by her own husband).
She turned to Jason for help, since Sonny had assigned Jason to guard
her before. Jason and Courtney snuck around for months behind Sonny's
back. When he found out about their relationship, he was very upset;
both with the lies and with his sister being sucked further into the
“life.” As she'd been with the AJ situation, Courtney wasn't
at all receptive to what Sonny wanted. Things got even more complicated
when Carly confessed to Sonny that he was the father of Alexis' baby...and
that she'd known all along. Sonny was incensed at Carly's betrayal,
and at Alexis for lying to him. Edward Quartermaine had his own suspicions
about the baby's paternity, and he and Sonny conspired to have a DNA
test run. Ned figured his grandfather would do something like that,
and arranged to have the test results altered. Sonny, Edward, Carly,
Ned and Alexis all converged on Alexis' hospital room (where she was
recovering from stress) and opened the results. Sonny was shocked when
the test revealed that Ned was the father after all. He warned Alexis
to stay clear of him from now on, and then walked away from Carly, whom
he was still mad at. He ran into Brenda outside the hospital, and he
told her that he wasn't going to be a father...again. They shared a
poignant moment in the rain, while Carly looked on. Eventually, Alcazar
kidnapped Brenda, and Sonny ran off to rescue her. They shared a hot
kiss on the island where Alcazar's plan crashed, and then were found
by Carly and Jason. Soon after, Alcazar was killed, and Brenda and Jason
were arrested for the murder.
About
the same time a new player showed up in Port Charles...Ric Lansing.
Ric had worked for Alcazar, and had been thrown into jail by him. When
he was released, he went to Port Charles seeking out Sonny. We eventually
found out that Ric was Sonny's half-brother, Adela's son with Ric's
father Trevor Lansing. Carly was pushing Sonny to accept Courtney &
Jason. They had a huge fight on the docks, which Brenda witnessed (after
she and Jason had been cleared of the murder). She and Sonny shared
another passionate kiss...this time witnessed by Carly. (Brenda left
town soon afterwards; after being jilted at the alter by Jax.) Carly
ran off, and woke up the next morning in bed with Ric Lansing. He told
her they'd slept together, but in reality she had been drugged by one
of Sonny's enemies, Faith Roscoe, and then Ric took advantage of the
situation to have something to hold over her. Sonny had a breakdown
and was convinced that Jason was against him, and that his enemies,
especially Faith, were going to kill his family. After he came out of
it, Sonny and Ric had a showdown on Martha's Vineyard, where Ric revealed
who he was. Currently, Ric is still wreaking havoc on Sonny's life by
kidnapping Carly...again; Faith is still in the picture; Jason and Courtney
are planning to marry; and, Alcazar's brother Lorenzo has shown up in
town, wanting to take over Sonny's territory.
