Writer's Quest: Find theinfo you need

Answers & Questions

Welcome to writersquest.org, a site created by Stacey Dennick to help fiction and non-fiction writers find the information they seek.

All the links on these pages are annotated, so you'll be able to tell right away which ones are going to help you. If you can't find what you need, email me and I'll try to answer your question. I love a challenge.

This site is always evolving, so please check back often. Feel free to mail me with comments, to report broken links, or to suggest additional sites or topics.

Thanks, and good hunting,

Stacey

About researching
Try to use both primary and secondary sources, and keep meticulous notes. You may need to go back and revisit something.

Don’t over research.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of spending too much time researching in order to avoid writing.  While researching is a more productive way of procrastinating then drinking beer or reorganizing your sock drawer, it still won’t get your pages written.  Strive for “just enough” research.

Write as you research.  That way you won’t end up with overwhelming piles of notes and photocopies.  I’ve found that typing up a bit of research can be a good way to trick myself into beginning a scene.

More about me
I'm a video editor, and a writer. My non-fiction articles have appeared in numerous print publications including: More Bridges: 2007 San Francisco Writer's Conference Anthology, The Pacific Sun, BIKE Magazine, Videography Magazine and Film/Tape World Magazine. I've been published on the web at Editors.net and IFILM.com. I've written video scripts for various corporate clients including the San Francisco Ballet, Cisco Systems and Microsoft Corporation.
For clips and more information see my web site.

I'm currently working on my final thesis (book length fiction manuscript) for my MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco.
