Misty Fjords SeaPlane Flightseeing

The Misty Fjords Flightseeing Tour out of Ketchikan was one of the best excursion values in our Southeast Alaska cruise vacation. I booked this tour directly with the operator, IslandWings/CarlinAir. We saved some money and received a far more intimate tour than if booked through the cruise line. The IslandWings van picked us up at the Ketchikan Visitor's Center located at the docks. After a short drive we boarded a DeHaviland Beaver with two other passengers. The three remaining passengers boarded a smaller Cessna 185.

The plane ride was very comfortable and afforded everyone spectacular views of the Fjord's sharp cliffs, snowcaps, mountain lakes, and dramatic waterfalls. One breathtaking waterfall drains down to the Fjord from Big Goat Lake which is 2000' above sea level. Big Goat Lake also became our landing site. Stepping out of the plane was awe-inspiring. It was pure wilderness, awesome scenery, icy streams and falls, and some ground snow even in August.
