Hello, my name is Sean Bates. I am running for United States House of Representatives, here in the 5th congressional district of Oregon. I believe that it is time for a complete shift in politics, one that allows those of us with no voice currently, to have one, and I want to be your voice. Unlike my opponents I am not wealthy, or a political insider. What I am is a normal person, who is sick and tired of being sick and tired, and I am taking a stand.
Here in Oregon we are blessed with an amazing enviornment, wonderful cities, and a strong agricultural industry. However, the economy is slowing down, gas prices are up, and even the wealthy are watching their budgets. We are looking at some tough times ahead, and neither one of the major parties is up to the task of helping us, the average citizen. They are more interested in bickering with each other than helping the country.
I believe we stand at the edge of a new dawn, one where the people control the government, not the other way around. For the last 30 years, the two major parties have steered us down this path we are on, and while some good has been done, there has also been a lot of damage done. As your Representative I will do my best to ensure that no more damage is done, and common sense solutions make it into law. I believe our country needs its citizens to stand up, and take back our government from the special interests groups, the corporations that sponsor them, and the corrupt politicians that listen to them.
There are several things I will do when I am elected. I will put in front of congress a law that makes English the official language of the United States, cracks down on employers that hire illegal immigrants, and secures our borders, north and south. I will tackle the issue of health care by promoting a Swiss style of health care, with mandatory health insurance and subsidies for those that cannot afford it. I will protect a woman's right to choose, while attempting to reduce the number of abortions through better access to birth control. I will support the second amendment, and oppose unnecessary legislation that infringes it. I support the Pickens Plan, and while it has its kinks, they can be worked out. I will work to repeal the USA PATRIOT Act, and do away with FISA. Because our civil liberties are important, and we shouldn't be afraid of our government. And finally I will listen to you, the people of this district. Lobbyist that walk into my office, will be shown the door, and the finger. However if you call my office, and express an opinion or concern, it will be listened to. You will have a voice, and it will be heard.
If you believe that this nation is headed in the wrong direction, then don't send Kurt Schrader or Mike Erickson to Washington, because all you will get is more of the same. Its time for common sense to make a return to Washington, and be assured that it will when I am elected.
