Members and non-members welcome!
In May we have arranged
for a docent tour of the new Chinese
Garden in West Seattle, close to South Seattle Community College.
The garden opens at noon and we can meet with the docent at 12:30 PM. The courtyard
is called Knowing the Spring Courtyard and it is the first completed formal structure.
The plan for the 4.6
acre garden began in the 1980’s after a sister city relationship was formed
with Chongquing in China’s
Sichuan Province. It is located on a hilly
ridge that resembles Chongquing. Master craftsmen
from the Chongqing Ancient Style Construction Company came to build the
garden bringing all the woodwork, tile, windows, stone pillar bases and
traditional tools. The garden has been planned and under construction for
many years and when completed will be the largest Chinese garden outside of
China.
Admission is free to Seattle residents, 6.00
for adults, 5.00 for seniors 62 and older as well as students!
